From Cluster of Clovers to Being Green with Envy - A Doubled Mani Holiday

I did two different St. Patrick's Day manis. I didn't really like the first, so I redid them.

For the first, my base color is Del Sol First Kiss, then I sprinkled on some loose gold glitter and stamped with Bundle Monster plate BM03. The darker green is Sinful Colors Envy and the lighter is Sally Hansen Grass Slipper. I'm not very impressed with how Envy stamped, though. I wish it would have been more opaque. Oh well. Now I know better for next time.

I tried to pick a Del Sol that I thought would look decent as either color with the clovers on top, so I used this one. It's normally a pearly, shimmery white and changes to a wannabe red that is actually more on the pink side. False advertisement! =P

As you can see by the little flower sticker on the bottle, that's what color it is supposed to change to, but that flower lies! I'm okay with the color it turns to, though. I just foresaw it to have a more dramatic change.

I actually fully expected it to show through the shamrocks since stamping applies such a thin image and was happily surprised when my clovers stayed green! ^.^

I think part of the problem with it not changing on my nails even as well as in the bottle is because I'd let it set. I noticed this when I first took the bottle outside for these pictures. I had not shaken it at all, even before I painted my nails, and it changed to the pink, but it was very hint of pink marbled with fully changed pink. When I shook the bottle and waited a second with it in the sun, the whole thing turned like it was supposed to. So I believe this could be partially why it's only barely pink on my nails.

So this mani was full of lessons learned.

I almost immediately removed the clovers and went with the Lots o' Dots-n-Spots look that I've done before in orange, blue, and dark pink.

So on the second mani, for the base, I watered down Sally Hansen Beige Blast to get a very thin, milky, sheer, stain-hider. Then I did a free-hand french in Sinful Colors Envy. Sometimes I'll use tape, but since I wasn't aiming for a french tip with perfectly straight or even lines, I didn't bother with it.

So then I went dot crazy with tons of different greens. The dots are done (in no particular order) in:

  • Zoya Dree (the army, baby poop green)
  • Sally Hansen Grass Slipper (the lighter, brighter, lime-green)
  • Sinful Colors Call You Later (mix of dark and light green glitter)
  • China Glaze Gaga for Green (the light but not-so-limey color)
  • Pure ICE (the nearly-neon, bright pea green number)
  • Revlon POSH (the sort of Kelly green that looks similar to french color)
  • Pure ICE (the more sheer, light, slightly shimmery one)
  • Petites Daze (yellowy-green one-color glitter)

I attempted an itty bitty shamrock on my thumb and ring finger, but they get lost in all the dots and look sort of out-of-place.

Did you do an awesome look for today?

Happy St. Patrick's Day! =)
