Fishtail Braid

Of course I was able to do other stuff while the one nail was trying, but including base and top coats, this mani, the braid part specifically, took me 5 1/2 hours to finish! I think that is the longest I have ever spent on one!

It was totally worth it, though. I love the end result! I'm impatient and hate dry time, but I love this look so much that I want to do it in tons of different color combos!

It would have been quicker to do it freehand, but I wanted cleaner lines, so I had to wait for each color to dry before laying down and doing the next.

For this, the lighter green I used is Sally Hansen Grass Slipper, the teal is Sally Hansen Fairy Teal, the blue is Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue, and the brown is Orly Coffee Break.

Have you tried a fishtail braid? You should! They are well worth the effort! And that's coming from me, someone who hates spending a century waiting for polish to dry!! ^.^

Wow, that's dedication! I'm sure I would have gotten distracted along the way and ended up with partial braids. :)

I think what kept me at it most was that I really really really wanted to see the end product! =P

When I saw this on twitter I literally went "whoa" . I tried to imagine all the taping you did for this but I can't wrap my head around 5 1/2 hours worth of that! This looks awesome, I'm excited to see what other color combinations you will come up with.

I love everything about this! Great colors and great execution! And your patience... Amazing!! I would love to try this, but I'm not sure I am ready to wait so long between the painting and I do want those sharp edges :D

It really wasn't TOO bad just because I was able to sit there in front of the computer and comment on blogs and stuff like that while I waited.
I love your work, so I've nominated you for the "One Lovely Blogger Award"! Have a great weekend :) P.S. I'm not meaning to spam, just wanting to share the love! http://fairlycharming.blogspot.com/

Wow I just found your blog! M'dear you are so cool! I am in love with this fishtail. May I ask just to be clear did you use scotch tape for the crisp lines and did you lay down the camel colored base first? I can't wait to try this!

Thank you! :) I just started off with a white base and put down tape, then the first red stripe nearest the cuticle, waited for that to dry, put down another strip of tape in the opposite direction and the blue and kept going back and forth like that. I actually got tired of having to wait for each color to dry before being able to put down more tape and go on to the next, so halfway through I just started freehanding the stripes instead.
This is gorgeous! I actually haven't seen this look before, and I love it! Definitely something I'll have to try.

Aww thank you! It actually wasn't TOO bad just because I spent the drying time commenting on/reading other blogs and whatnot, so I kept myself busy! =P
