White Crackle Negative Space

This mani came about completely by accident.

I grabbed a white Sephora by OPI polish at Big Lots because it was cheap there and the brand is no more, so I like being able to still try some. I used it once over my bare nail just to try it out as a white base. It seemed pretty chalky, somewhat lumpy, and just had a really strange formula. But it dried crazy fast.

So I didn't think anything of it. A week later, I put my regular base coat on while trying to decide what to do on my nails. Grab this SOPI white, I wanted to use it as a base again because it dried so fast last time! Aaaaaand there's the crackle! They only work over another polish, where they can slide around, pull, and form the shattered effect. Which is why it didn't crackle on me the first time I used it.

But then I actually really liked the way the white shards and shatter bits looked against a bare nail, so I just left it and topcoated! Maybe its that natural nail gradient going on behind the shatter, I don't know. I just know I very rarely see a crackle look that I like, so I figured I might as well enjoy it while it lasts!

I'm almost tempted to try this with other crackle colors! I know the phase has long since died, but sometimes old polishes need to be loved again too!

What do you think of the way I used SOPI White Blasted? Kind of fun, right?!

This is perfect for a "mummy/halloween" themed mani!

I never thought about that! Doing the brush strokes horizontal for a mummy might look neat!
If they can resurrect Scattered Glass nails from 2012, I am sure crackles are right around the corner

Hahaha! Just as long as duck nails don't come back!
Very fun indeed! It looks great crackled over your bare nails.

I can't help it, I actually like the crackle this way. I'm never a fan, but this is pretty!
I'm sad this fad died, I still love the crackle look, but I can't wear it on my blog anymore. what a cool effect, like a non-traditional french mani look!

Thank you! I never thought of it that way. Why can't you wear it anymore?
I;m always worried girls are going to comment saying they hate crackle :(
Too bad. Not their blog, so they don't get a say in what you post! I vote you wear all the crackle you want!
